The angle usually decides the access type — but the angle people have and the access people need are often different things. This check screens slope, frequency of use and what workers carry, then points to the access family to design around.

What is the access for?

Start by confirming that the route is fixed workplace access to plant or equipment, not public building access or temporary task access.

Each access type owns a slope band; hybrid compromises between bands tend to perform worse than either neighbour.
